SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and Plants

SAIC VOLKSWAGEN Co., Ltd. No.1 Auto Plant

The No.1 Auto Plant utilizes internationally advanced auto manufacturing processes.

Robots are extensively used for welding in the car body workshop. The plant is the first to make use of the world's advanced laser online measuring equipment. The wider use of advanced laser welding technology has greatly improved body strength and stiffness, making the cars look even more attractive and well built. The plant’s paint workshop was the first to adopt the world’s advanced ESTA automatic painting equipment and the Rodip full immersion pre-treatment process, supported by wax injection, washing and other processes. The assembly workshop incorporates highly automated production equipment, which greatly improves productivity when used along with modular production. Advanced vehicle equipment, including four wheel alignment, lighting, drum, road test and rain test rigs, ensure the stable and reliable quality of cars made at the plant. The assembly workshop uses an advanced FIS system to control production and logistics processes, and sorts out and delivers colored parts through scheduled production. The plant has introduced Volkswagen's new concept logistics and uses Warenkorb materials distribution technology for the first time. This technology can reduce the material feeding requirements of production sites and can also greatly reduce the probability of incorrect or missing parts loads, thus helping to improve vehicle assembly quality.

The No.2 Auto Plant utilizes various advanced body welding processes, including laser brazing technology, IF point welding technology, IF gel technology, robotics roller hemming technology, and integrated welding pliers. The coating process makes use of phosphate, chrome-free passivation and lead-free electrophoretic coatings and three environmentally-friendly coating layers to apply a rust-proof armor on car bodies and protect them from the impact of all kinds of weather. During the assembly process, the plant can concurrently meet ZP7 ECOS, toe, drum, LEP, ZP8 ECOS and other high electrical testing requirements. The workshop also meets road test, online anti-theft matching and other modern production requirements.

SAIC VOLKSWAGEN Co., Ltd. No.3 Auto Plant

The No.3 Auto Plant is located in Anting Auto City, Shanghai. Built in 1999, the plant covers a total land area of 450,000 square meters and has a gross floor space of 270,000 square meters.

Adopting industry-leading laser and CMT welding technologies, the No.3 Auto Plant body shop utilizes high-strength hot formed sheets and unique Arplas welding technology to ensure the strength and rigidity of car bodies. The plant’s paint workshop adopts the new multi-function shuttle machinery for its second-line pretreatment electrophoresis, which greatly improves the quality of pretreatment electrophoresis and eliminates air bubbles. UBS flip wagons are used for conveyance purposes, markedly reducing employees’ work intensity. The workshop’s assembly plant is the first in China to adopt flexible production. Adopting an order-based production system, it can customize models based on customer needs and achieve efficient and smart production.
