Shanghai, April 24, 2023. Volkswagen Group China’s “Better Life” Project brought 30 outstanding students from six secondary and higher vocational schools in Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hebei, and Anhui provinces to Shanghai. Students learned all about the most cutting-edge automotive products and technologies through visits to a SAIC VOLKSWAGEN dealership and MEB Plant along with a guided tour of Auto Shanghai 2023. The project also provided opportunities for students to interact with employee volunteers from the Group as well as employees from the dealership and the factory. Through these activities, the students broadened their horizons and gained deeper insight into their career prospects in the automotive industry.
Dr. Liu Yunfeng, Executive Vice President of Volkswagen Group China, Head of Corporate & JV Affairs, said: "The project fully leverages the Group's resources and expertise in the automotive industry. It fosters professional growth and development in students by providing them with opportunities for professional training and valuable offline activities. We are committed to training and elevating young talent for China’s NEV industry. This will promote rural revitalization and contribute to China’s long-term sustainable development."
Through the MEB Plant and dealership visits, students had the opportunity to learn about careers in manufacturing, sales and after-sales services. The activities enabled them to take a deep dive into the industry while fueling their future career development. In addition, outstanding factory employees were invited to talk with the students. They shared their insights and experiences, answering student questions and providing a clearer picture of a career in the automotive industry.
Visiting Auto Shanghai with the Group's employee volunteers, the students learned about the latest automotive products and technology trends. The project also organized exchange talks and other activities for students. They learned from each other while developing teamwork and independent learning skills, all of which will be valuable assets for them when they embark on their careers. Looking ahead, the Shanghai experience tour will also be shared with vocational schools supported by the project as an online training course. This will enable more students to stay informed about the latest trends in the automotive industry while empowering their future career development.
In 2021, Volkswagen Group China leveraged its resources and expertise in the automotive industry and teamed up with the China Foundation for Rural Development to initiate the five-year “Better Life” project. So far, the project has empowered 2,000 students in automotive-related majors at 34 secondary and higher vocational schools in five provinces. Through a series of tailored courses and experiential activities, the project empowers students to broaden their horizons, enhance their knowledge and skills, and contribute to the sustainable development of China’s automotive industry.
