Shanghai, Nov 5, 2022. Under the theme of “Smart Sustainable for New Era”, Volkswagen Group China will set out a bold vision for its electrification transformation at the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. The Group is showcasing five fully electric models, including two concept cars, one of which is an Asia premiere, together with Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche brands. Volkswagen Group’s software company CARIAD’s China team brings its new software innovation “Neon”, which enables a more diverse HMI between car lights and car users, reflecting its sustainable development competence based on the unified and scalable VW.OS. Building on a global goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Volkswagen Group China continues to take effective carbon reduction measures along the entire product lifecycle, contributing to China’s sustainable development.
Dr. Liu Yunfeng, Executive Vice President, Corporate & JV Affairs, Volkswagen Group China, said: “We are pleased to attend CIIE for the fifth consecutive year as we showcase our latest electric models and innovative e-mobility solutions. Building on four decades of shared success, we look forward to shaping a new era of smart and sustainable mobility and will continue to contribute to the close economic exchange between China and Germany.”
China plays a vital role in Volkswagen Group’s NEW AUTO strategy. The Group is embarking on its e-transformation journey at full speed as it works with its joint venture partners, investing 15 billion euros on electrification projects in China through to 2024. The Group is also laying the groundwork for a comprehensive strategic focus on e-mobility, from raw material sourcing and software development to expanding its charging network across the country. All of these endeavors are essential for the Group’s goal of electrifying more than 40% of its model portfolio in China by 2030 and continuing its success in the e-mobility era.
Building on a global goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, Volkswagen Group China is working tirelessly to reduce carbon emissions along the entire product lifecycle. Additionally, together with Volkswagen Anhui and local partners, the Group has rolled out an innovative smart logistics project in Hefei to build a sustainable and smart city. It is also the first smart logistics project in China which is led by an international car manufacturer.
Drawing on China’s rapidly growing innovation power, CARIAD‘s China subsidiary keeps on speeding up its local development based on VW.OS. As a newly developed software inspired by the “Rainbow” project’s design concept introduced in April this year. With a focus on car lights, “Neon” will explore and expand the possibilities of deeper software and hardware integration. Through its design tool, Neon can achieve flexible control of lights in various parts of the vehicle through software, and seamlessly integrate to body function control scenarios, enabling smarter cockpit experiences and a more comprehensive HMI. Besides “Neon”, 3 more pre-developed software innovations selected from more than 80 innovation ideas in the last 2 quarters have been promoted by CARIAD’s China subsidiary into series development. This reflects a strong competence regarding “Smart” application innovations with “sustainable” local development capabilities.
The Volkswagen Brand drives towards a smart, sustainable, carbon-neutral mobility future through the introduction of its ID. family, based on the electric-only MEB platform. At CIIE, the brand displays its latest member of the family, the ID. AERO concept car, due to be launched in 2023. With the elegant ID. AERO designed for pure aerodynamics as the future flagship of the ID. family, the brand will be entering the fully-electric midsize sedan segment, providing more choices for smart and sustainable mobility for customers in China. Additionally, visitors can enjoy an immersive virtual reality experience to discover Volkswagen’s IQ. Technologies, the brand’s latest set of smart features that support a convenient, intuitive, safe, and enjoyable drive. Via augmented reality, guests can explore the secrets of the MEB platform. A true first-class convenient charging experience for the China market will be demonstrated with the CAMS charging solutions for public and private users. Combined together, these elements show how VW is offering sustainable mobility solutions for Chinese customers and also confirm VW’s shared vision with CIIE for a new era of e-mobility and carbon neutrality.
Audi demonstrated its progressive vision and continued efforts in shaping the future of premium sustainable mobility in China under its “Vorsprung 2030 China Strategy” with impressive appearances from the Audi RS e-tron GT, the technological spearhead for the brand’s electric offensive, and the locally produced Audi Q5 e-tron, its first Roadjet model. By the end of 2022, the four rings will have launched a total of 7 NEV models in the Chinese market. In the meantime, Audi is fully committed to providing a comprehensive premium ecosystem dedicated for Chinese customers. It announced that it will launch the first batch of Audi Charging Station by the end of this year. The first batch of Audi charging stations are being put into operation in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, with more cities to follow. In June this year it laid the foundation stone for its automotive plant with the Audi FAW NEV Company, its first in China where only all-electric Audi models will be produced. With that project, Audi is bringing the PPE platform to China and locally producing market-specific, all-electric models.
This year, Porsche continued its exploration into electrification and sustainability. With the theme of "Fast Forward Future", Porsche presented two of its latest all-electric models: the Mission R concept study, which made its Asia premiere; and the Taycan Cross Turismo, the first all-electric crossover utility vehicle. As Porsche's first all-electric customer racing concept study, the Mission R features advanced developments in electric motors, battery cells, aerodynamics and sustainable materials, presenting Porsche's vision of a future with all-electric motorsport. With its off-road performance and technological capabilities, the Taycan Cross Turismo further enriches the pure electric sports car lifestyle. On the stage of CIIE, Porsche once again emphasized its sustainability target of working towards a net carbon-neutral value chain in 2030, which includes a net carbon-neutral use phase for future BEV models.
