Beijing, September 2, 2022: CARIAD’s China subsidiary made its debut at the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), outlining the future of mobility on behalf of Volkswagen Group China. The company attended the Forum on Future Mobility Transformation with the Dual Carbon Goals, hosted by the China Software Industry Association (CSIA), to discuss with industry experts the transformation of future mobility. Chang Qing, CEO of CARIAD’s China subsidiary, and CTO Dr. Sun Wei attended, with Chang Qing delivering a keynote speech on how electrification and intelligence can help transform the mobility industry as it moves towards the "dual carbon" goal. Dr. Sun Wei shared his views on how to grasp new opportunities in the construction of an intelligent and low-carbon mobility ecosystem.

Under China’s "dual carbon" goal, the automobile industry is gradually shifting from the manufacturing industry to being a part of a broader mobility service industry. The integrated development of software, the information service industry, and the automobile industry will be accelerated, bringing a disruptive change to the automobile industry. As an important part of road transportation, the green transformation of the automobile industry is crucial for China to achieve its "dual carbon" goal. At the Forum on Future Mobility transformation held on September 1, the CSIA invited industry government representatives, experts, and enterprise representatives to discuss development trends, opportunities, and challenges around the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) industry and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology under the “dual carbon” goal. On behalf of Volkswagen Group China, and as a representative of outstanding foreign enterprises and technical experts, CARIAD’s China subsidiary offered its thoughts and advice for the future development of the automotive industry.

At this forum, Chang Qing, CEO of CARIAD’s China subsidiary, gave a speech on the theme of “Intelligent Mobility Solutions of CARIAD in China under the background of 'dual carbon' goal." He said: “Electrification and intelligence are the key elements to promote the green transformation of the automotive industry. CARIAD is pleased to discuss the integrated development of software, the automobile industry and the information service industry with experts from the software and automobile industry through this national platform CIFTIS. We look forward to collaborating with more industry partners to provide better intelligent mobility services for Chinese consumers.”

Volkswagen Group is committed to achieving carbon neutrality across the entire product life cycle by 2050 and fully accelerating to electrification and digitalization by 2030. CARIAD, as the global software and innovation center of Volkswagen Group, is an important force in the Group’s transformation into a software-driven mobility service provider. Through software-defined and driven cars, CARIAD and its China subsidiary aim to bring consumers a smarter, safer, and more sustainable mobility experience.

The China team is working together with CARIAD SE to develop a new, unified, and scalable software platform to provide end-to-end intelligent mobility solutions based on local consumer demand. The solution shows CARIAD’s full stack R&D strength and integrated product thinking. By creating a more impressive consumer experience based on the new software platform, CARIAD will promote intelligent mobility, drive changes in the way cars are produced and manufactured, and as a result contribute to reducing carbon emissions from the first stage of a car’s life cycle.

With the strategy of “In China, for China”, CARIAD’s China subsidiary will fully accelerate the software product development for local consumers, including ADAS and automated driving, next-generation connectivity functions, intelligent cockpit and body design, big data, and software operating system. By promoting the electrification and intelligence transformation of Volkswagen Group, its brands and joint venture partners in China, CARIAD’s China subsidiary will contribute to the sustainable development of China's mobility industry.

Dr. Sun Wei, CTO of CARIAD's China subsidiary, joined a high-level panel to discuss with industry experts the new opportunities of building an intelligent and low-carbon mobility ecosystem. He said that on top of independent R&D capabilities, the China team will break out of the R&D mindset of traditional automobile companies, strengthen the collaboration with local partners and cultivate inter-disciplinary talents. “We will adopt the “China speed” and differentiated local innovation, while meeting and leading the diversified needs of Chinese consumers in future mobility,” he added.
