New Management Team for Volkswagen (Anhui)

    • Dr. Stephan Wӧllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China, appointed as CEO of Volkswagen (Anhui)

    • Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein: “Our vision is to make Volkswagen (Anhui) one of our global centers of competence for e-mobility.”

[Hefei/Beijing, January 5th, 2021] The Volkswagen Group is further accelerating its e-mobility strategy in China with the announcement of the new management team for Volkswagen (An-hui) (formerly known as JAC Volkswagen), led by Dr. Stephan Wӧllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China. Dr. Jӧrg Mull has been appointed as Chief Finance Officer, Dr. Ludger Lührmann as Chief Technology Officer, Harry Schneider as Chief Production Officer and Shao Jian as Chief Human Resource Officer.

“Our vision for Volkswagen Anhui is to make it one of our global centers of competence for e-mobility, as well as having it lead the way in developing cars in China, for China, and from China to the world,” said Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein, CEO of Volkswagen Group China. “As we enter the next phase of our e-mobility strategy, we believe that Volkswagen (Anhui) will play a crucial role here in China, as well as globally. Benefiting from a strong brand image and drawing from the technical know-how of both the Group and JAC, Volkswagen (Anhui) is exceptionally well posi-tioned to succeed.”

With the new management team in place, Volkswagen (Anhui) is moving at full speed to push the Group’s e-mobility strategy forward in China. Furthermore, Volkswagen (Anhui) will join SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and FAW-Volkswagen as the third joint venture to produce electric vehicles on the MEB platform, with start of production commencing in 2023.

The members of the new management team have decades of working experience in China for the group, bringing the expertise, technical know-how and intercultural insights to ensure the future success of the e-mobility joint venture.

Brief Introduction of the new management team:

Dr. Stephan Wöllenstein has been appointed as CEO of Volkswagen (Anhui). This new role is in addition to being CEO of Volkswagen China Passenger Cars brand – a position he has held since 2016 – and Member of the Board of Management, Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, plus CEO of Volkswagen Group China, where he has been in post since 2019. Since joining Volkswagen in 1995, Wöllenstein has held several senior posts in international sales departments as well as in Product Management, including two assignments in China, with SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and FAW-Volkswagen.

Dr. Jörg Mull, with over 8 years of working experience in China and 15 years in total in Asia, has been appointed Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for Volkswagen (Anhui). From 2007 to 2014, he was the CFO for Volkswagen Group China and played a key role in the negotiations for the Gotion High-Tech deal, in which the Group acquired a 26% stake, and the stake increase to 75 % in the JAC Volkswagen deal, now renamed to Volkswagen (Anhui).

Dr. Ludger Lührmann is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Volkswagen (Anhui). From 2013 to 2016, he was responsible for body development and played a key role in rolling out the MQB platforms at SAIC VOLKSWAGEN. In 2016, he moved to Volkswagen headquarters at Wolfsburg in Germany, where he was in charge of body development, including the body elements for the ID. family, as well as for the battery housings. As CTO, he will bring a new portfolio of all-electric vehicles to Volkswagen (Anhui).

Harry Schneider has been named as Chief Production Officer (CPO) for Volkswagen (Anhui). Over his 20-year career, he has worked across multiple Group brands including super premium brand Lamborghini and volume brands such as Volkswagen and ŠKODA. He has more than 12 years of local working experience as head of factories with the joint ventures in Shanghai and in Chang-chun. As CPO he will ensure the ramp-up of production and future expansion.

Shao Jian has over 15 years of experience within the Volkswagen Group in China and will be bringing his expertise to Volkswagen (Anhui) as Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO). Over his career he has held a variety of management roles, including product marketing, JV steering for sales and marketing and more, providing him with a great understanding of the people that work within the Group. He led the project to establish JAC Volkswagen back in 2016 and has played an important role in guiding the joint venture since.
