[Beijing, June 21, 2019] In tandem with the start of production of two NEV products, the APP290 E-drive and the DQ400e Hybrid Transmission, at Volkswagen Automatic Trans-mission (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., Volkswagen Group China has launched a new initiative, the Green Factory Tour, closely echoing its environmental and decarbonisation strategy. Guests present at the SOP of the NEV components were provided the opportunity to learn about the tour, in which they explored the sustainable technologies applied at this Green Factory and how Volkswagen aims to minimize its environmental impact, such as energy and water consumption, reduction in waste, CO2 emissions, as well as target a fully CO2-neutral balance by 2050.
Volkswagen Automatic Transmissions (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., located in the Tianjin TEDA Development Zone, has been designed from the ground up with sustainability in mind. The plant utilizes a number of technologies to lower environmental impact, for example a Vacuum Evaporation Pro-cessing System which reduces hazardous waste produced by the production of each gearbox by 40%. Over 70 air pollution facilities are employed across the plant to achieve clean air and elim-inate harmful substances. The factory is also building a Solar Panel System for clean solar energy and utilizes a heat-exchanging system to use waste heat. The Green Factory Tour, a joint initia-tive by VGC CSR and Environment Management Production team, is the most effective way to present factories’ efforts in environmental protection.
“Green production and sustainability are key focuses for Volkswagen Group China, in fact they are crucial for our future,” said Yin Jin, Head of Corporate Social Responsibilities of Volkswagen Group China. “The Green Factory Tour is the perfect example of how the Group is providing people with the opportunity to gain more knowledge about environmental protection and the importance of a green future.”
For the past 35 years, Volkswagen Group China has always strived to fulfill its commitment to China, as a responsible and trusted partner and as a true corporate citizen. The new Green Fac-tory Tour initiative aims to educate employees and the public on the importance of sustainabil-ity and a green future. Moreover, teachers of Volkswagen Group China Environmental Education Program, as well as their students and the general public will be able to attend this tour in the near future. The Green Factory Tour at VWATJ is a pilot project, and the plan is to further expand this initiative to other factories in the coming years. While transforming into a provider of sustainable mobility solutions, Volkswagen Group China will continue to drive the development of sustainable technologies and production methods for the betterment of society and the environment.
