Volkswagen Group presents innovative line up at China International Import Expo

● Volkswagen Group China strongly supports landmark event in 40 years of Reform and Opening Up with one of the largest displays at the Expo by an automaker.

● 25 models from seven brands are demonstrating latest in e-mobility, connectivity and mobility solutions.

Beijing, November 6, 2018 – Volkswagen Group China is strongly supporting China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai by staging the event’s largest auto industry display, showcasing 25 models from seven of the group’s brands. “CIIE marks both a celebration of the remarkable progress China has made during the 40 years of its Reform and Opening Up strategy, and an important statement of intent to further open up and to drive growth in its trade with the rest of the world. Volkswagen Group China supports this event by presenting our most innovative import cars, which are strengthening our brands’ image,” said Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft as well as President and CEO of Volkswagen Group China.

“This event is particularly important to Volkswagen Group China. Our links with China date back to the very start of the Reform and Opening Up strategy and we were one of the first auto companies to enter China. Therefore, we share a strong bond with the advances achieved during this period. We are continuing to do this through ongoing investment, meeting our customers’ demands and introducing the latest technologies as we seek to define the future of mobility,” Heizmann added.

A key driver of Volkswagen Group’s involvement with China at the start of Reform and Opening Up was then Volkswagen AG Chairman Dr. Carl Hahn. Already in the early 1980s Volkswagen Group started to work with a dynamic emerging power and, despite challenges of an initially undeveloped domestic market and industry, the Group was committed to building a strong mutually beneficial partnership. As a result, Volkswagen established itself as a pioneer among foreign carmakers in China. That relationship has now blossomed into China becoming Volkswagen’s single biggest market.

Now, Volkswagen Group China is actively implementing e-mobility, connectivity, digitalization, mobility services and autonomous driving technologies in its models for China, reflecting the globally leading position of the Chinese market in the new era of transportation.

A total of 172 countries, regions and international organizations will participate in CIIE. Around 3,600 companies will showcase their products at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center.

In this spirit, Volkswagen Group China and its brands have assembled an impressive line-up of innovative imported models at the Expo that demonstrate their leadership in e-mobility, connectivity and mobility solutions.

Volkswagen started importing cars into China in 2004, with the aim of providing Chinese customers with authentic, innovative, high-quality imported Volkswagen models. In the past 15 years, through the introduction of 24 Volkswagen imported models including Touareg, the Beetle, e-Golf, Sharan and many others, these models have gained strong recognition from the China market by meeting the diversified demands of Chinese customers and creating new mobility lifestyle options. Volkswagen Import currently has over 130 points of sale across Mainland China, covering more than 80 cities and focused on delivering exceptional products and trusted services to Chinese customers.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has a 68-year development history with constant high-quality and innovative MPV products starting from the classic T1 models. From the T1 to the modern Multivan and Caravelle, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles series models have achieved a high reputation all over the world. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles always provides leading import MPVs in the China market and constantly puts Chinese consumers’ needs as the first priority. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles introduced the 6th generation Multivan and Caravelle to China from 2016. Multivan and Caravelle offer dominant experiences through powerful dynamic performance, flexible interior space, advanced functionality and comprehensive drive assists to satisfy diversified demands and the upgrading consumption of Chinese consumers. To cater to the expanding needs of China consumers, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also crafts special editions in addition to the regular offer.

Audi is showcasing eight models at CIIE. Audi has been importing cars to China since 1987, adding to the rich China history of Volkswagen Group. Audi e-tron, the brand’s first all-electric-drive production model, is making its China debut at the expo. The model is the start of Audi’s electric initiative, under which the brand is planning to bring more than 20 electrified models to the global market and sell 800,000 units of new energy vehicles annually by 2025 worldwide. The Audi e-tron will be offered in China as an imported model in 2019, and will be locally produced in China starting from 2020.

The year 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the Porsche brand. At the first China International Import Expo, Porsche is participating with classic sports car and a concept study model, interpreting the 3 pillars of Porsche’s product portfolio heading into the future: optimized combustion engines, performance-oriented hybrid and purely electric sports cars. It demonstrates the brand essence of Porsche’s fascinating sports car over the past 70 years and its innovative spirit. As a core part of Strategy 2025, Porsche has attached great importance to electrification and will continue to support the long-term development of the auto culture in China, with the typical driving pleasure of Porsche.

The 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine on the Lamborghini Urus delivers up to 650 horsepower and top speed of 305 km/h. Its 0 – 100 km/h acceleration takes only 3.6 seconds.

ŠKODA is actively taking part in the China International Import Expo at the Czech National Booth. SKODA’s connection with China goes as far back as 1935, when the ŠKODA POPULAR was first exported to China. As one of the most successful Czech brands in China, ŠKODA will present its new flagship KODIAQ GT. With its strong, dynamic presence and state-of-the-art connectivity, the KODIAQ GT is the new standard bearer in ŠKODA’s most important sales market. For the first time in the SUV segment, ŠKODA is offering a vehicle that combines the robustness and versatility of an SUV with the sporty elegance and dynamism of a coupé with the KODIAQ GT, appealing to new, lifestyle-oriented consumer groups. The new KODIAQ GT will celebrate its official premiere in China at the Guangzhou Motor Show in November 2018.
